our purpose
Stockworm Capital Management, LLC (SCM)is an Investment Advisor registered in and regulated by Alabama. SCM was started because the status quo for portfolio management is inadequate. Traditional portfolio managers often buy or sell based upon a ’gut feel’ for where stocks might move or, even worse, based upon a vested interest in the sales of stocks through commissions. SCM's 'sister' company, Stockworm, Inc., successfully designed a computerized portfolio management system which replaces emotional investing with scientific rigor. With the Stockworm system, strategies can be designed based upon individual client needs and tested using an extensive historical stock database to assure that the performance is in line with the design. Much of the Stockworm technology is based upon the same analysis techniques which are used in genetics and other scientific fields
history of stockworm
Over a decade ago, members of the Stockworm team started to research stocks intensely to find out
what makes the market tick. After reviewing popular investment
magazines, web sites, books, and financial news programs, we realized
that we were really seeking a more impartial way of picking stocks,
outside of the 'hype' of the popular press. After immersing ourselves
in academic accounting journals we were really excited at the potential
of advanced valuation techniques and wrote a program which would crunch
out the valuation formulas which we had discovered (the birth of the
'Stockworm').
Eventually we started analyzing more than 8000 stocks at a time and
investing based on the results of these picks. Stockworm gave
us a measurable advantage in our investment choices and we were
impressed with the boost that it gave our portfolios. We started
running into so many friends and associates who were begging to use
Stockworm that we finally organized a company to make the tool
available on the web. The Stockworm website was thus launched in 1999.
The version of Stockworm that you see today is much refined and
improved over the initial software that we developed years ago. We have
accurate, reliable financial data through Hemscott Inc. and Zacks Investment Research.
The data is crunched through valuation formulas, ranked appropriately
and placed in our databases. The stock screens and individual stock
analysis modules use all of the core Stockworm technologies to deliver
value added content through ranking, valuation, screening, fully
customizable charts and sophisticated portfolio tracking. We are
committed to continually improving the site with the latest technology.
In mid-2006, the Stockworm toolset was privatized and is currently only accessed by SCM for portfolio management or by clients of SCM for the same purpose.
management team
John M. Siegel, Jr., Ph.D., Managing Member - John has always been curious about solutions to complex problems, and he typically uses computers as a tool for finding the answers. Prior to Stockworm, John worked extensively on the application of computer technology to bioengineering. He has worked on the analysis of genetic sequences and on computer simulation of flow-related diseases in the human body including diseased heart valves, clogged arteries, and kidney dialysis. John started Stockworm when he saw that the status quo for portfolio management was inadequate. John designed the Stockworm system to replace emotional investing with scientific rigor by employing many of the same analysis techniques which are used in genetics and other scientific fields.
John has multiple academic publications and honors as well as 4
patents/patents pending. John obtained his Masters and Ph.D. degrees
from Georgia Tech in 1991 and 1994, respectively.
Fyodor N. Golos (Fedot), IT Director - Fedot is a Russian
native who came to the U.S. in 1994 to study computer science. He has
been in the field of software design and development for over ten
years. Cutting edge technology and the latest and greatest computer
tools have always been his primary focus of interest. He has worked in
various industries from genetics to financial analysis. Over the years
he has gained significant experience in multiple programming languages,
